The last post

The lovely people over at the Riot Act have finally found us, we have a thread all to ourselves. Oh my, what is this talk of illegal stuff? No, nothing illegal was done in obtaining the moderated posts. Until a few weeks ago, anyone could access them and many were. Over a dozen people knew of this very simple security loophole. Through a loophole in WordPress you can access moderated posts on The Riot Act. It is simple.

Just log into the Riot Act.

Use the link to submit a new story.

On the options on the left, click on comments.

When comments are displayed, click on the deleted comments. It will be empty now, but it used to be full of about 3 weeks worth of comments.

So no hacking occurred. We simply followed publicly accessible links on the web site. There were no indicators to suggest we should not. We did nothing illegal, and nothing wrong.

Despite this, when this potential issue was discovered, the Riot Act was emailed about it. Twice. No reply was ever given to those emails. So they were alerted via posts on the web sites and the contact form. Three separate times. Still no response. Some one even copied and pasted posts from there to JB’s Facebook page and still he did nothing about the issue other than delete them from his FB page. So we figured since they were not concerned about it, they didn’t have a problem with us accessing the deleted posts. They took no steps to make them unavailable to us. They took no steps to remove them, even posts which contained the address of people who were claimed to be drug dealers which those people requested be removed due to defamation. That post was there weeks after a court order to remove it. So we read them for amusement and have been able to do this for almost a year.

As for use of Johnboys’s image. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use

As for putting up stickers, this was done in response to Johnboy’s love of stencil art and graffiti. We chose a non permanent form of advertising which will be removed in the future.

As for hate. No, there’s none. No hate for Johnboy or The Riot Act. I’ve met him several times, shared a drink with him, and he’s an okay bloke, except when he gets angry. He can be like that friend we all have but don’t like.  This was simply a big copy and paste of moderated comments to help give an insight to what does and does not get moderated. Yes, there were interesting trends but this is no war against JB. Just take it with a pinch of salt when he says he’s sticking to his moderation policy and that he just deletes a few duplicate posts. If that were the case, everything you can see here could still be found on the RA.

Update

It is still possible to see moderated comments. No, not just the one from Jim Jones, all of them. As ALL comments are submitted, they can still all be viewed unless they are approved or deleted straight away. This is a security issue guys. Fix it. You can’t say you were not told this time. Use the access permissions to limit viewing.

This will help you

You want proof? Then start here: http://www.findingdulcinea.com/news/technology/2009/June/What-Really-Happens-to-Recycled-and-Donated-Electronics.html

Of course if Thumper wishes to not grapple with the issue of anti-science lunatics telling lies, he can continue with his tone-trolling. It’s an admission of sorts.

You’re the gift that keeps giving aren’t you?

Once again I’ll ask where, exactly, did I say I disagree with the science? Where exactly did I talk about the stone age? Where exactly did I say that I don’t believe in climate change? Where exactly did I suggest anything?

Exactly where? Come on? Exactly where?

I don’t really understand why this original post got through Johnboy’s editorial standards.

The first suggestion, that ACTEW was added by government to a ‘dirty list’ because Canberra is a safe seat makes no sense at all. The way the list works, and this is all public, is mostly to use prior NGERS reporting by organisations of their emissions, add an emissions threshold value and then list the entities above the threshold. That’s it. Nothing more.

If you look at the LEPID list, you’ll see that there are a lot of energy (electricity & gas) and water utilities on it. Again, no surprises there, as these organisations use a lot of energy and generate a lot of emissions. In the case of the water utilities, the story includes both energy use and emissions from wastewater.

I don’t follow the link with lighting for Manuka Oval at all.

And then the final comment, that somehow because ACTEW/ACTEW AGL is on the top emitters list (which is not a surprise), this will mean there will be additional, surprise costs for those on average incomes. This also does not make sense.

So a suggestion to the Riot Act managers: don’t publish gibberish like this. If there is a nugget of an issue glinting away below the paranoia and crank of posts you get from people like I-filed, rewrite a post about just that issue. For example, you could have done a quick post that noted ACTEW was on the list of top emitters, looked at projections for cost increases under the carbon price for Canberrans, and asked what readers thought about this.

If i was going to spend 3-6 months overseas, knowing full well I’d be busy 5 days of the week, I would seriously look at how I’d finance my time over there prior to stepping on the plane. Getting there and then realizing I don’t have enough to get by on is quite a dumb way to do it.
Also, if this is a regular thing, wouldn’t the club have worked all this out beforehand? There are enough people living here already trying to find spending money to live off, why do we need more?

So Tax payers pay for an overpass that staff, patients and visitors use (if they can and are not on crutches or in a wheel chair) for about a month as it adds another 3 minutes to the already 5 minute walk from work to their car that is parked not even on campus.

No personal axe to grind Johnboy, certainly am no anti-drug crusader, however what is the point of having a forum set up including news items allowing comments and suggestions that benefit the community at large, in particular, young people? As for the Uni student suggestion, it is my opinion that the community (yourself included) if you travel on roads, may well benefit from the reasons behind the actions taken by the 24 year old this week, in addition to studies conducted into behavioural traits of young drug users, particularly those kids using our roads.

Thanks for the judgement passed on me Johnboy and the respect behind your comments.

I suggest to Mr Delgado that as the population of the Falklands will not in a million years vote to transfer rule to the Argentinian government, and no international court will ever rule in their favour, perhaps the Argentinians can try to take them by force, and see where that gets them?

Additionally, he may think about coming up with a better propaganda name for the Falklands than their French name, which is hardly spin that advances the Argentinian cause a whole lot.

This may seem a bit extreme, but it works. I gaurantee that you will be left alone for perpetuity and those pesky kids will never say peep in your presence again…..

1st, get a stanley knife and cut yourself (this will make sense later)

2nd, rush the main student offender and grab them in a firm yet pseudo-sexual fashion and secure them in such a way that you can whisper/kiss/lick them and they cannot do anything about it (Ensure that they are well over the age of 16 otherwise this will backfire quite badly for you and you will get a rep that you do not want).

3rdly, tell them that you remember what it was like when you were their age, 10 foot tall and bulletproof. Whisper to them how lonely you are and then suggestively whisper something really dirty/disgusting in their ear like that they are going to be violated with a plunger and a trombone while you pleasure yourself with their favorite childhood toy to the soundtrack of Clockwork Orange (although the connection would be lost on the students), they will be paralysed with fear and will not notice you putting the stanley knife handle in their hand and then jump back and scream that they have cut you.

and 4thly, the bus will stop and you will be there bleeding when the cops arrive. The stunned students will already have have a bad reputation for troublemaking and there will be one of them holding a stanley knife while you are bleeding. The kids will be taken away and not believed because it sounds silly and who would go to all that trouble anyway?

When you do see them they will be quite well behaved around you from then on with only you and they being the wiser. This when you smile at the and say what well behaved little pretties they are.

I’m sorry what day is Australia celebrated on again?

What has that got to do with the issue? You’re really grasping at straws, mate.

Hmm, what have we here…

Australia Day (previously known as Anniversary Day, Foundation Day, and ANA Day) is the official national day of Australia. Celebrated annually on 26 January, the date commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 and the proclamation at that time of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of New Holland.

Although it was not known as Australia Day until over a century later, records of celebrations on 26 January date back to 1808, with the first official celebration of the formation of New South Wales held in 1818. It is presently an official public holiday in every state and territory of Australia and is marked by the presentation of the Australian of the Year Awards on Australia Day Eve, announcement of the Honours List for the Order of Australia and addresses from the Governor-General and Prime Minister.

With community festivals, concerts and citizenship ceremonies the day is celebrated in large and small communities and cities around the nation. Australia Day has become the biggest annual civic event in Australia.
